Library and Information Center

The primary aim of the library is to support education and research need of students,faculty and staff of the Markaz Arts and Science College Athavanad by providing physical and intellectual access to information. The library offers services such as book lending, renew, return policies, services for differently abled visitors and community, reference service, digital library service, reprographic service, new addition alert service, current awareness service and user education.

The Library boasts an impressive collection of over 6,150 books and subscribes to nearly 38 periodicals, including journals, magazines, and newspapers, as well as 2 online journals. This extensive array of resources keeps students and faculty updated on the latest research and trends.

Books are classified and arranged as per Dewey Decimal Classification(DDC). OPAC-Computerized open access catalogue is available to locate the documents. 

Library Area:

Markaz Arts and Science College Library and information centre have good areato keep books. The library has two spacious reading rooms with capacity of 50 seats and well-equipped digital library with two computers. College library is very helpful to teachers and students for their academic and research work.

Library will be open from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm on all working days.

General Rule :

  • College identity card is compulsory for all users. This card is strictly non-transferable.
  • Students are required to sign in the gate register while entering and exist.
  • Keep silence in the library. Switch off your mobile phone inside the library.
  • Do not bring your personal belongings (bag, file, umbrella, etc.) inside the library.
  • You are allowed to bring loose paper sheets/reference cards for note-making.
  • Handle the books with care. Cooperate to preserve our repository. Tearing off the pages of books/journals means cheating your friend who also needs the information contained in it.
  • Please do not misplace the books on the racks.
  • Mobile phones must be set to 'silent mode' inside the library.
  • Students should take care of cleanliness of the library.
  • Solicit your cooperation for the efficient functioning of the library and information system.
Library Sections
The college library has a acquisition section where new documents are procured and then processed as per standards and norms of the library.Technical section which is resposible for classification and c ataloguingof the accessioneddocumemts.The colege library has a seperate counter for circulation desk which is computerized in alll aspects.Membership registration, book issue and retrun using barcode scanners,reservation and renewal of documents, issue No Dues Certificate, overdue fine collection are carried out by this section. Library maintains as seperate reference collection consisting of textbooks, dictionaries, encyclopedias, handbooks, competitive general books like GATE, NET, CAT etc. Library subscribes 38 periodical (which include journals, magazines and newspapers) and two online journalls to satisfy the current information needs of both students and faculty.
Membership
Membership of the Library is open for the teaching staff, students and non teaching staff of the college. The identity card which issued to the students from the college is also their library membership card.

Damage/Loss of Library Books

Users will be held responsible for any damage or loss of library materials in their possession.

For loss of books the following procedure will be followed.

  1. If new edition or copies of the lost books are available with the book suppliers, book has to be replaced by a new one.
  2. If the lost book is not available for replacement the value of the lost book.

No Due Certificate

Each patrons shall obtain No Due Certificate from the library after returning all the books issued. Surrendering the borrowers cards and after paying outstanding dues, if any.

DIGITAL LIBRARY

The library has a seperate area in the first floor for a well-equipped digital library. This section act as a gateway to a wide array of web based information sources,scientific literature including e-books and e-journals subscriptions of INFLIBNET-Nlist online consortia and can freely access the internet resources to supplement their academic learning.

The college is registered under the NLIST program, granting access to 250872 e-books and 6529 e-journals, which provide a vast array of literary and academic works. Additionally, the library subscribes to two online journals: Down to Earth and the International Journal of Financial Management.
